Cited in someone else’s sermon…

So for a surprising change, I found myself cited in someone else’s sermon. Week after week I craft my own sermons, turning often to some of my favourites like Robert Farrar Capon and Walter Brueggemann for inspiration. Nice to discover my own words in a sermon preached by Joseph Duggan at St Francis Episcopal Church in Fair Oaks, California, on May 26. To take a look at the sermon, simply click here.

Neither jazz nor Trinity is the same as its goal to express the inexpressible. Jazz is music that evokes life. Trinity is a doctrine, but Trinity is not God. Trinity evokes relational life. Jazz and Trinity bring us to deeper places within, where in silence, we touch God. Then we like musicians, theologians and priests point others to God.
